Sara Murphy

Art Teacher

Mixed Media Color Expressionist

I have always been a creative being.

My earliest influence was my mother. She was an artist and included me in her world.  I see ripples of her generosity still echoing in my life, in my classroom, in the workshops I teach … Explore it, Try it, Discover it. Be courageous! Share your joy.  These are the tenants I live by.

I was exploring fibers from an early age, sewing and crocheting. I discovered my affinity with wire which over time developed into nature inspired jewelry designs. Stained glass was a transformative medium as it gave me so much color to play with in a 3-dimensional format. I returned to sewing, making my own clothing and costumes and eventually hand sewing sock creatures.

My pursuit of various media has been driven by my passionate response to color and my fascination with textures.

Throughout my life, I have always enjoyed sharing the creative process with people … from playing with my mom, to a beautiful partnership making jewelry designs with my dear friend, to creating stained glass and building a labyrinth with my husband. My happy place is making art, sharing the joy of creation and finding the magical moments.
